SERMON SERIES: Looking In All The Wrong Places
Be Still, And Know
šĀ Text: Psalm 46šĀ Key Verse: Psalm 46:10 ā āBe still, and know that I am God.ā
TPT: āSurrender your anxiety! Be silent and stop your striving, and you will see that I am God.āMSG: āStep out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything.ā
š”ļøĀ 1. GOD IS OUR SAFE SPACE
Verses 1ā3
āGod is our refuge and strength, a very present help in troubleā¦ā
š¬Ā Talking Points:
RefugeĀ = God is our spiritual security systemāa shield in the chaos.
StrengthĀ = His power is not detached; itās for usāHeās not watching from the sidelines.
HelpĀ = He shows up on time, every time,Ā no appointment necessary.
š§ Ā Illustration:
Like dialysisĀ for your soulāGod is where the toxins (fear, anxiety, doubt) are removed, and new life is restored. He purifies, strengthens, and keeps us functioning when life breaks down.
š ļøĀ Practical Application:
Instead of running to distractions when trouble hits, run to prayer.
Take 5 minutes a day to mentally āSelahāāpause, reflect, breathe.
Create your āGod cornerā at home. One chair. One Bible. One encounter.
šļøĀ 2. GOD IS PRESENT
Verses 4ā7
āThere is a river... God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved...ā
š¬Ā Talking Points:
God is not just watchingāHe is with us, in the mess, in the mix, and in the midnight hour.
The riverĀ represents peace, provision, and joy in the middle of panic.
God's presence isnāt just a vibeāitās an anchor.Ā He makes His home in the storm so we don't have to face it alone.
š§ Ā Illustration:
Think of blood in the body: it brings life, nutrients, and healing. Godās presence is like spiritual circulationāwhen it flows, everything works. When itās blocked, we feel off. Stay connected to the Source!
š ļøĀ Practical Application:
Donāt just acknowledge His presence on Sundayācarry it into Mondayās chaos.
Try the āGod check-inā method: 3x a day, stop and say, āGod, I know Youāre here. Lead me.ā
In stress, don't just postāpause. Let God's peace be louder than your panic.
š„Ā 3. GOD IS COOKING
Verses 8ā11
āCome, behold the works of the Lord⦠He makes wars ceaseā¦āāBe still, and know that I am Godā¦ā
š¬Ā Talking Points:
God isnāt passive. Heās not in the kitchen making snacksāHeās orchestrating nations, ending wars, setting things in divine order.
Be stillĀ = āStop striving!ā = Let go of control. Stop fighting battles that aren't yours.
āGod is cookingā means Heās doing the work behind the scenesĀ even when we canāt see it.
š§ Ā Illustration:
In a restaurant, you donāt go into the kitchen and mess with the chefāyou sit, trust, and wait. When it comes to your life, let God cook the meal, set the table, and serve it when itās ready.
š ļøĀ Practical Application:
Identify where you're trying to ābe Godā in your life. Release it.
Keep a āGod Did Itā journal. Write down every unexpected breakthrough or closed door that turned out to be protection.
Encourage your people to declareĀ daily: āGod is workingāeven when Iām waiting.ā
šµĀ SELAH MOMENT:
āSelahā means pause, breathe, reflect.
Encourage the congregation to take weekly Selah moments.
Reflect on where God has been a Safe Space, how His Presence showed up, and what He's been Cooking.
š¤Ā Final Challenge:
Ask them:
Where do you need to be still?
What fear or fight are you being called to surrender?
Can you trust that Godās silence is not absenceābut activity?
š„Ā Call to Action:
Lead them into prayer with this:
āLord, I release control. I trust Your strength. I receive Your presence. I will stop, surrender, and be stillābecause You are God.ā
