WHAT IS IT THAT WILL BRING YOU PEACE? (Part I)
Luke 19:28–42 (NIV) Series: Looking In All the Wrong Places
BIG IDEA:
We search for peace in success, relationships, routines — and still come up short. But peace isn’t found in control, comfort, or circumstances. Peace is a person — and His name is Jesus. In Luke 19, Jesus enters the city as the Prince of Peace… but the people missed Him. They were looking for a different kind of king. The same happens today — we look in all the wrong places for peace, and Jesus is still weeping over our blindness.
POINT 1: ASSURANCE OF THE VISION (Luke 19:28–34 – Dependability)
Jesus sends two disciples to get a donkey — and everything unfolds just as He said.
Key Insight:
Even when God’s instructions seem odd, they’re dependable. That unridden colt? A sign of humility, surrender, and trust.
Application:
- Trust God’s plan before you understand it.- Move forward with what God has already shown you.- Peace comes when you follow God without needing all the details.
Ask yourself:
Am I waiting for more clarity, or walking in the obedience I already have?
POINT 2: ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN THE VISION (Luke 19:35–38 – Seriousness)
The crowd praises Jesus loudly — but they still misunderstood His purpose.
Key Insight:
You can be loud and still be lost. Their praise was real, but their expectations were wrong. They wanted a savior who fit their agenda.
Application:
- Get serious about why you’re following Jesus.- Let your worship match your walk.- Real peace means following the King, not just celebrating the moment.
Ask yourself:
Am I celebrating Jesus for who He is — or who I want Him to be?
POINT 3: ACCEPT THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE VISION (Luke 19:39–42 – Sure of It)
Jesus weeps for the city. He says, “If only you had known what would bring you peace…”
Key Insight:
They missed the moment. Peace was right in front of them — but they didn’t recognize it because they were expecting something else.
Application:
- Let go of false expectations and receive what God is actually offering.- Peace comes from presence, not performance.- Don't miss Jesus because you're looking for something shinier.
Ask yourself:
Is the peace I want keeping me from receiving the peace God has for me?
CLOSING ENCOURAGEMENT:
Peace isn’t a plan — it’s a person. Stop chasing the image of peace and start trusting the One who gives it freely.“If you had only known what would bring you peace…” — You still can. His name is Jesus.
